Shirring elastic is a fine 'stretchy' elastic coated in a fine thread. It is used in 'Shirring' which is achieved when machine sewing multiple parallel rows on fabric. The fabric subsequently gathers up, the more rows stitched the better the gather. Shirred fabric looks lovely on the top of Summer dresses, or can be on sleeves or skirt waistbands. Wrap the Shirring elastic by hand onto the bootom spool/bobbin.
Shirring elastic is also useful when sleeve or necklines on jumpers become stretched with wear. Stitch the shirring elastic into the cuff or neckline to re-jenerate that saggy jumper!
